April Shower Bring May Flowers-Crafting While Learning

We all remember the saying "April Showers Bring May Flowers" and while here in West Texas it doesn't rain much in April I thought this craft would be a cute, fun thing for my kids to do. So while we were learning about bugs and the outdoors I thought it would be great to learn how the rain can help to grow flowers and how the flowers could help the bugs. This was such a fun cute craft. I loved that is was super easy to put together so that even my 5-7 year old Girl Scouts could assemble them without having to have one on one help. The foam pieces are easy to stink together and with a little pressure stay well, but luckily that is something small kids have way to much fun doing.lol

I love Oriental Trading's craft projects for so many reasons. They always come with great step by step directions, extra pieces(because lets face it when you are working with little kids sometimes they get lost), and many of the craft projects there are no extra supplies required. I love these kits from Oriental trading, for under $9 you can make 12 fun projects. To find this and other crafts for Spring head HERE.

Homemade Fly Traps

We all love summer but as the weather gets warmer the flies get worse and worse. We have a bush out front of our house that I swear just attracts every fly in town! I wanted to get rid of them but I didn't want to kill all the wonderful butterflies it also attracts. So I went about finding a new way to kill them all. I had some empty Tazo tea bottles I simply poked a pen sized whole in the top, added 1/2 cup of water, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 tablespoon of dish soap, and 1 tablespoon of syrup. Now I do find that these work better if you place them in the sun :O) If you want to use a bigger container simply multiply the ingredients. Make sure your hole is only about the size of a pen cap! Then they can't seem to get back out.lol

Putting On Girl Scout Badges With A Flat Iron

I love helping all my little daisies earn badges, but as a mom I hate putting them on. Lol I saw an idea on Pinterest a while back to use a flat iron so I thought I'd give it a try.  It worked really well but I do have a couple suggestions. First make sure your badge  is exactly where you want them. Unlike an iron this causes the glue to melt very fast! Second count I 3-4 and it is probably done! Lastly you will likely have to apply pressure to the end pinching it tight. Overall it worked very well and I will probably keep putting badges on this way :)
