Find Tips for Planting a Fall Vegetable Garden

Planting a Fall Vegetable Garden
Get your garden ready for fall vegetables with planning and preparation

Fall is a great time of year to plant a vegetable garden. The weather is cool, the pests stay away and fall vegetables are nutritious and comforting. Keeping a healthy garden takes planning and the right conditions; fall is no exception. With these simple tips, planting fall vegetables can be enjoyable and your garden will flourish season after season.

Prep the soil for planting fall vegetables
The first step in planting a fall vegetable garden is to prep the soil. Survey your garden and make sure you clear away any debris, rocks or fallen vegetables and plants. You will also want to take care in removing weeds from the soil. There are several methods for removing weeds. For fall preparation for a vegetable garden, try to stay away from using chemicals and sprays and seek organic methods for removal.

With the heat of the summer months, your will find most soil has become compacted and dry. When planting a fall vegetable garden, you will need to spend some time breaking up the soil so that new roots have plenty of room to flourish. Depending on the size of your garden, you might need different tools to get the job done. Smaller gardens can be moved around with a pitchfork or cultivator, while a bigger space, or one that’s especially compact, might require a garden tiller. If you are going to use a garden tiller, make sure you consult the operator’s manual before you begin and observe all safety suggestions. Once the soil is broken up, you can till in compost or manure to add valuable nutrients back to the soil.

Newman's Own Organics

I've brought to you before several great products from Newman's Own Organics, recently I was given the chance to review some new products that I haven't been able to show you before. Newman's Own Organics not only makes great things that many are familiar with but they also make some items perhaps you hadn't yet heard of. Today I am going to share with you those items.
First I want to share with you two products that I have really enjoyed reviewing, Newman's Own Organics Royal Green and Black teas. Now in our family we go through a lot of tea, like most people in Texas of course we have our sweet tea that goes with lunch and dinner, I also love to enjoy a glass of hot tea in the morning and one before bed. We received a box of tea that could be used for each so I brewed up a pot of each, the black tea we turned into our sweet tea. It was a very deep tea that I really enjoyed much more then the brand that we were currently using. I was able to take one tea bag and make just over a gallon of tea as well so the cost effectiveness was really good :). Since I am the only one in the family that drinks green tea of course one bag I made much less, I really liked that it wasn't bitter, which sometimes green tea can be.
The next group of products I want to talk about is Newman's Own Organics Dried Fruits. We received a very large variety of dried fruits that included apricots, prunes, apples, cranberries, raisins and a berry blend. The apples were the first to be gone so I guess they must have been the best right ;) my kids really loved that they were actually a little chewy and really sweet. They were both visually appealing, which was nice for a change. My daughter is the dried fruit lover in our family and actually loves to take them for lunch, we typically mix them all up together so that she can get a couple of each. Dried fruit is so good for you for many reasons. They are high in fiber, contain many antioxidants, you get a high number of nutrients consuming less and they are low in fat. My favorite thing to make with the dried cranberries and raisins are granola bars!

LeapReader™ "Ready, Set, Read & Write" Party

I get so many amazing opportunities as a blogger to not only try some of the best new products but to share in my experience with friends, family and my readers. Recently I was given the chance to host a fun party from Leap Frog and MomSelect. My LeapReader "Ready, Set, Read & Write" Party was such a blast! We were hoping to be able to have it at school but the the bookfair in town it was just to busy, so we had a couple friends over after school one day so that we could see just how much fun these were.

Our Party Pack!
The kids were super excited to see all the neat things that there was to try, and even with two LeapReaders boy was it hard for everyone to find their good sharing manners! I even giggled a little because my 10 year old found it the hardest to remember that he had to share. Until the kids really got into them I didn't know how much these Leap Readers really did so let me share with you!

My 10 year old not sharing ;) he likes Cars apparently the best.lol
Learning to write your letters and numbers, step by step!
First of course we had to try the option of writing, and if I was thinking I would have made videos for all of these and not just pictures! It is really neat because as you learn to write your letters it gets more and more advanced. It tells you just where to put your pen and what direction to go so that your child is able to complete, on their own!
With different options like hearing letters, sounds and words
each developmental level can learn.
The LeapReader comes with a variety of different options for different age groups and reading levels. They are geared towards children ages 4-8 years old but with learning cards on the human body, solar system and more it could easily be for older children, I know my 10 year old has really enjoyed playing with these.
Older level books ask questions and require interaction seeing what you child knows can be so amazing
Sometimes they just have fun listening to the story as well.
We had so much fun with our party and my kids
can't wait to dive further into these learning
tools. Since we were unable to host at school and have a chance of great prizes I decided we only needed one in our house and we are donating the other LeapReader to my daughters school :)

**We received the above mentioned products as part of the MomSelect Program. Thank you Leap Frog and MomSelect for this opportunity.**

Trucker's Friends, a Rugged Outdoor Tool

If you visit my blog regularly you have probably noticed we are a fairly outdoor family. Whether we are working in the garden, out camping, or even 4-wheeling we just love to be outside. So recently when I was given the chance to review The Trucker's Friend I was beyond excited. The Trucker's Friend is a a multi-use tool that can function as an axe,pry bar, hammer, tire chain hook, ice scraper, nail puller and wire twister. This really is the ultimate tool to fix issues with the car, camp site and more.
I decided to put this tool to the test, after all I had plenty of thing around the yard that needed done. Now I suppose this review is best done with pictures!
Since the most obviously use seemed to be as an ax I thought I'd try that first! We don't have a fire place so I don't have much wood around right now, but I did take a couple whacks at this old post that is seemingly stuck in the ground. With a good swing it plunged itself deep into the  wood, if I had been splitting a piece it would have been very effective.
Next I tried it out as a hammer, I was quite surprised how well it sank in the nail. With just one hit it went very deep into the wood, probably about half way. Now I have to admit the only thing that was concerning to me is that the ax would be faced towards me when swinging.
Of course if you ware putting a nail in, you might need to take it out right?!? The crowbar side worked perfect for pulling nails out.
Lastly I used it to help tighten up my garden fence. I had already pulled it as tight as I could possibly pull it so I hooked it and pried back on it. It worked VERY WELL and I was able to tighten the fence nearly a whole other row. Now I also used it to tighten the fence but I forgot to get a picture.lol
I am really loving this tool, it could be used on a regular basis no doubt. We have actually added it to our RV, as many of you know in the next year we will be moving with hopes of living off the land. This tool will be a great help.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Arizona Kidz Tea Supporting Smiles of Children Worldwide

There is nothing I love more then to work with companies that care about others. In 2009 Arizona introduced a line they call Arizona Kidz which come in a variety of flavors from their best selling Lemon Iced Tea to their Half & Half which is a tea that is half lemonade (and my daughters personal favorite). The Arizona company decided that they wanted to do more then just make teas, they wanted to make a difference. Not just in the lives of the people locally but for children all over the world. They took their best selling Lemon Iced Tea and made a pledge, for every 6 pack of Arizona Kidz Lemon Iced Tea that sold they would donate 5% of their Net Sales to  non-profit organization called Operation Smile. Operation smile is a company that has helped children all over the world by treating more then 130,000 children born with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities in more then 51 countries.
I have been drinking Arizona Teas as long as I can remember. It is something that I have always really enjoyed and was so glad to see that they made a fun kids bottle now :) my kids love the taste and I love that they aren't loaded with to much sugar. With a suggested retail value of $2.99 for a 6 pack they are only 50 cents a piece which is very reasonable. In addition at only 60 calories per serving it won't break the calories through the roof! It also contains 100% of your daily suggested Vitamin C and Arizona Tea encourages their consumers to recycle when they are done enjoying :)
What I didn't know was how many other great product Arizona offers! We received the great backpack which my daughter has just fallen in love with. But it isn't just back packs, they sell everything from pens to bags, hats and more. During their Back to School promotion you can get a free pen with every order. The backpack is very heavy duty. I was actually shocked it was better made then any of the backpacks we had purchased this year from our local stores.

We have really had a great time with this review and I with this review, I loved not only the products but learning about another company that helps others. You can learn more at Drinkarizona.com , you can also check them out on Facebook and Twitter(@DrinkArizona).

Howard B. Wigglebottom on Trust

If you have young children you may have hear of Howard Wigglebottom before. What you may not know is he has a new adventure to share with you. Recently I was given the chance to review his new book, Howard B. Wigglebottom on Trust. Howard B Wigglebottom is a bunny that has to know how every little thing worked. In this book he sees that a friend Buzz  is having a hard time lately. He sees he friend doing things that he sees are wrong and dangerous. When Buzz almost takes a ride from a stranger Howard finds him self speaking up and asking WHY! After talking he finds out that Buzz just doesn't know when it is ok to say no :( he wants everyone to like him and is afraid that if he says no they will no longer be his friend. They decide it is best to ask the adults when is a good time to say no. Howard B. Wigglebottom and Buzz find out what is best and with excitement go about playing and happy that they are making the right choices.
I really enjoyed sharing this book with my children. While it is geared towards younger children I think it is a life lesson that all children need to learn. From time to time all children are going to struggle with the choices they are faced with. Who to yes yes to and who to tell no, it is our job to help them know when to make that choice, to not only make themselves happy and safe but also to try to not hurt others. Reading with a child helps a child see from the outside how to make the right choice, it isn't just mom saying don't do this. Howard B. Wigglebottom books have been a great teaching tool for our family and I am glad to have been able to add this book to our collection.
You can Howard B. Wigglebottom on Trust and the rest of his adventures at www.wedolisten.org right now you can get this book and others for only $6 a piece! Or you can save any more by buying all 12 books for only $60. Don't miss out on your chance to save, these make a great Christmas gift for teachers, parents and children.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Total Nutrition by Immortalherbs

Hoping on the fitness train means looking to things to help fill the gaps in my diet as I try to discover the perfect balance. Recently I was given the chance to review a product that could possibly help do just that. Total Nutrition is a product which is rich in antioxidants, amino acids, enzymes, nutrients, vitamins, and phyto-nutrients. All of these are required to take your body from what they call "surviving" to "vibrant".  Total Nutrition contains a diverse blend of premium quality superfood ingredients that come from across the globe.  This cutting-edge global blend of superfoods makes Total Nutrition extremely dense in nutrients, vitamins and minerals.  In fact, just one tablespoon is enough to provide the average American with an entire day's worth of nutrients!
Now unfortunately I only received enough for a one time sample so I can not tell you the long term effects like I normally would, but what I can tell you is the taste, mix-ability, and how it made me feel on a short term bases. I decided to mix it with a morning protein shake so I could more or less get a complete meal on a day where I was just really not hungry. Now I won't lie this probably would have been better if I had mixed it with juice.lol I think the smell made it more difficult to drink then the taste. The smell of alfalfa is very strong and when mixed with a mild protein powder the cover-up wasn't there. Lessons learned, mix with juice :) or blend in a fruit smoothie.lol

It didn't mix great in my blender cup.
Total Nutrition is comprised of:  Barley Grass, Wheat Grass, Spirulina, Spinach, Alfalfa Leaf, Kelp, Dulse Leaf, Barley Grass Juice, Orange Peel, Beet Root, Dandelion Leaf, Lemon Peel, Gingko Leaf, Wheat Grass Juice, Maca Root, Cacao, Ashwagandha, Sacha Inchi, Manuka Honey, Bee Pollen, Reishi Mushroom, Blueberry, Black Currant, Wild Bilberry, Wild Lingonberry, Aronia, Pomegranate, Concord Grape, Red Raspberry, Sour Cherry, Wild Elderberry, Wild Cranberry, Black Raspberry, Goji Berries and Schiznadra Berries.   These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Adminstration.  This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Your Bladder Matters to Cystex....Are You Kegeling??

I've discussed many times in the past the stage of my unhappy bladder. If I don't treat it just right it certainly will let me know about it. In the past I have brought you a review from a brand I have grown to trust and love, Cystex. For those of you not familiar with my story and beginnings with Cystex you can read it HERE. Cystex Cranberry Urinary Health Complex can help promote better bladder health.  It is a sugar-free, dairy-free, and gluten-free daily supplement that not only tastes great and boosts urinary tract health.  The unique Proantinox® cranberry formula can help to end the cycle of infection for those who are prone to recurrent urinary tract infections. Or like me are just faced with constant pain.
Recently Cystex has started a campaign to help promote all over bladder health. It’s easy to get a stronger, better bladder with daily Kegel exercises that can be done while you’re doing just about anything else and no one knows you’re doing them– so there’s no excuse. Cystex came up with this adorable little video to help educate people around the world on the path the better bladder health. Please take just a few minutes and watch it :)
.......Did you watch it?? Good :) Now Kegeling is luckily something my mother had talked to me about since I was a teenager. I have to admit though I am not nearly as good about it as I should be.
Kegeling can be done by squeezing and holding your pelvic floor muscles up and in. I promise this is not nearly as difficult as it sounds....stop right now and give it a try!  Most healthcare professionals suggest Kegeling regularly for ten seconds three times a day, to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles in a pre-emptive defense of many bladder issues. You have 30 seconds in your day right?? If you knew it could save you from years of bladder issues in the future would you make 30 seconds?? Still not convinced you should Kegel?
Cystex wants to help spread the word Cystex wants to offer one of my lucky readers this cute Kegeling t-shirt. In order to enter all I need to know is where do you Kegel??*This giveaway will run through September 28th so don't miss your chance to win. And keep on Kegeling!*

Keep UP With Your Fitness Goals With the Jawbone UP and Best Buy!

It is no secret by now that my family has focused quite a bit on our health this year. With huge genetic illnesses on both sides of the family we decided it was time to take hold of our health and hopefully change the hands we have been dealt. Recently through the Best Buy Wolf Bloggers program I was given a chance to add something into my lifestyle that has not only helped me track my fitness progress but it has given me the knowledge of my own body and what I was putting into it that I didn't before know. The Jawbone UP Band is a band that you wear on your wrist. This band tracks your steps throughout the day and when you wear it at night it can also record you sleep, from the time you are actually in bed to the time that you are in a deep sleep and a light sleep. The best way to describe this fitness device is through pictures :)
It is made of a flexible plastics with the workings
inside, it has a cap that covers the charging end and
a small button that you use to change it from wake
to sleep.
When you order yours there is a size chart, you simply measure your wrist and then find the size you need. The guide was very accurate and mine was a perfect fit.
You can link your band as often as you would
like by plugging it into the top of your iPhone
and select Android device. The results are
then listed by date in this easy to read graph.
I really liked that you are able to see the percentage of your goal that you had met. It really helped me to know just how much I needed to get my butt in gear to meet my goals! Speaking of goals you are able to set your own but it gives you a recommended goal for your age and weight :)
You can link the Jawbone UP app with
several other popular fitness apps. I don't yet
use any of these but I think it is such a cool
option to give you just that added edge in
following your fitness goals.

Keeping track of food is a very important part
of any healthy living lifestyle.
I really loved the food tracker. There was very few items that I came across that were not in the system. There was a nice feature to add your own as well. You could either search the library or you could use my favorite tool the bar code scanner. As I prepared my food I could scan the back of any packages that I was using and select my serving size. It added it to my menu :)
The things you add daily all get calculated together
so that you are able to see how much of the good
things and bad things you have put into your
body. The nice thing again is that these levels
are all based on your age and weight.
I have really had a lot of fun reviewing this product. While I am not perfect I love that I can keep track of my progress. With a 10 day battery life I don't have to remember to charge my band non stop either! That is a really nice feature :) It is comfortable to wear even when sleeping I barely notice it.
Of course there are some nights I don't need the band to
tell me I slept well ;)

Live Better. Start Now. Jawbone UP. Track your sleep activity, steps, calorie intake and more with the Jawbone UP wrist sensor and free mobile app. UP gives you meaningful, personalized insights so you can make lasting improvements to your everyday life.

**The reviewer has been compensated in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card and/or received the product/service at a reduced price or for free however all views are those of my own**

Bodylogix Protein Powders

I may have mentioned before that as part of my day I like to enjoy a protein drink. I usually have a chocolate shake right before bed to help not only my cravings, but it help my muscles get the nutrition they need from my days workout. Recently I was given a chance to review a line of protein powders from Bodylogix. I received samples of their Vegan Protein, a large container of their Natural Whey Protein, an awesome aluminum water bottle, a bag as well as samples for their Chocolate Natural Protein Powder.
Before this review I hadn't heard of Bodylogix before, so when it came in the mail I was really interested in learning more. The first thing that really struck me was the packaging that was clearly labelled for recycling, not only with numbers but with clear directions on how to do it!
The large sticker on top :)
I know to many people this is something that is relatively unimportant, but as a family that is working on reducing our negative impact on the Earth I thought it was really neat. If I can save from putting one container a month into the landfill that is an amazing amount in my lifetime! I fully intend on composting the container when I am finished with it. The next thing I really loved about this product is something that is becoming more and more important as people learn about GMO foods. Bodylogix Natural Protein is GMO free, made with GMO free soy lecithin. It is also sourced from grass-fed cows in New Zealand and free of bovine growth hormone and antibiotics.
I love when NO is a good word ;)
I tried the Vegan first, because I have considered going more towards the vegan lifestyle. It wasn't to bad :) it was not quite the creamy texture I love to have to help with my cravings. As a vegan alternative though it would definitely work! Next I decided to try the Vanilla Natural Protein. Not being a big fan of vanilla I was very curious if I would find one that I liked.
I decided to go basic in my mixing the first time to see how well it mixes. If you have tasted a couple different brands I am sure you have had at least one brand that just doesn't mix, and there is nothing worse then a gritty protein shake.
The Bodylogix Natural Protein started to "melt" into the water almost immediately. After a couple or shakes in my blender cup I opened it up to see what I had.lol
It was frothie but it was not grainy that I could see and there was no residue left in the bottom. This was actually by far the best Vanilla Protein drink that I have ever had. Not at all gritty it seemed really creamy and actually filled me up in the evening making it easy not to snack on the bad for me foods(oh I love those foods.lol) I do have to say the sample of Chocolate Natural Protein was by far my favorite part of this review! I can't wait to pick up container of the chocolate as I get to the bottom of my Vanilla.
Now Bodylogix does offer much more then just protein powders. They have a whole line of nutrition items, you can get an online trainer and they have a free APP! To find out more make sure to visit their website (http://www.bodylogix.com) and don't forget to connect with them on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/bodylogix) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/bodylogix) as well. If you would like to purchase these products they are available at Walgreens and on Drugstore.com

Sometimes You Just Have to Dust 'n Go

I really thought this year when the kids went back to school I would have so much time not working. HAHAHA yeah that was a joke, I guess I didn't realize just how much I really had to do. Like most people I like to find little ways to save time when it comes to cleaning, because after all most people don't enjoy cleaning right!?! Recently I was given the chance to review a product that not only saves time, but it also saves from having to spray and aerosol in my house or having to pour oil that gets all over my hands. Dust 'N Go from Scott's Liquid Gold is an easy and convenient, these pre-moistened cloths are perfect for quick touch-ups between deep cleaning!
I really loved that there was no skill required to use this product. Simply pull out a wipe and get to dusting. The scent was great, I'm not sure what the scent was but I really enjoyed it. When I wiped what I thought was a "clean" surface Dust 'n Go proved me wrong.  As you can see from the picture above just one end table collected a ton of dust, without leaving any film or residue :) It took me one wipe to do my entire living room area, so with 20 wipes per container you could use these Monday through Friday and it would last a whole month! Scott’s Liquid Gold Dust 'n Go has the power to clean and prevent dust build up! They are great for use on all types of finished wood surfaces, vinyl, laminates, leather and well really anything you can think of. Small and hassle-free, these wipes are the best way to get housework done FAST!  How many places can you find to use Dust 'n Go?
Don't miss the two great promotions they are currently running through Facebook! One is a generous and PRINTABLE coupon, the other is a contest to win one of 13 prizes! Find them here: https://www.facebook.com/scottsliquidgold  they can also be found on Twitter: @scottliquidgold and on Pinterest: http://pinterest.com/scottliquidgold/
