SANUS and Safe Kids Worldwide TV Safety Initiative Giveaway

SANUS and Safe Kids Worldwide Launch TV Safety Initiative      For many Americans, a flat panel TV is a great way to enjoy family time and entertainment.  However, most parents are unaware of the safety risks that flat panel TVs pose for kids.  Due to increasing size and new ultra thin designs, today’s flat panel TVs can easily tip over when bumped or pulled, toppling off of furniture and causing injury or even death.      Bringing this risk to the forefront, SANUS , the leading designer and manufacturer of flat panel TV wall mounts, has partnered with Safe Kids Worldwide .  By educating consumers on the risk of unsecured flat panel TV’s, SANUS and Safe Kids Worldwide offer safe solutions for families across the nation by reducing TV tip-over related injuries and fatalities. A 2011 US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) report on flat panel TV safety revealed: ·          A child is killed every three weeks from an unsecured TV ·          Every 45

Gardening in West Texas- It's a Jungle Out There!

Wow what a great week for this side of the state! While we had a frightening tornado drill it ended fine with no real damage. We ended up with several inches of RAIN last week as well. It was amazing while it lasted but we are back into the hundreds as of yesterday. It amazed me that after 4 days of rain, two day included flood warnings due to the level of rain, that I would have to water the day after. On a good note we were able to save 200+ gallons of rain so we have gotten 2 great days of flooding without the expense and today I will be catching up with laundry today to water the garden and preparing it for our upcoming vacation. He are some new pictures for the week :) The tomato plant and the stupid pot I nearly broke my hand on.

Simply Saturday

Wow what a Saturday it has been. We got up early to do the first of many yardsales and lets just say it was the worst one I have ever had! So as we packed up we went through and donated and entire truck bed full to goodwill. Sadly our tax credit is more then we made :(. On a good note though it did nicely clean up the pile and I am refreshed to go through more. I am putting items online for sale and hopefully that has better results. This week is focused on getting ready for vacation. I will be scheduling some posts to go live while I am out of town and with any luck I will be able to do some fun posts while on the road :) So back to working on that I go! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Mobile Clean & Go Review

The last couple of years have brought amazing advances in technology and as a blogger that is really an exciting moment for me. However as a mother of three that means sharing my electronic devices with hands that just don't seem to be as clean as mine, if you know what I mean. As I sat here thinking about what I was going to blog about today I kept getting distracted by the smudges and smears all over my computer screen. My brain finally clicked in and I remember about a product that I received to review called the Mobile Clean & Go . So I ran to the box (okay I'll admit it I ask my daughter to go get and we begun reading the directions.

Gotta Love #momwisdom ~Mother Knows Best #sponsored

Me, My mommy, and My Sister(she is the angry          Growing up my mother has always been my best friend. It isn't a secret, heck even my sister calls me a mamas girl. As I sit here every day and watch my daughter grow all I can think is how much my mother means to me and all the wisdom she has passed on to me. Growing up I did a lot of things both good and bad, but regardless my mother was always there to support me. From showing dogs to judging land in FFA she was always there. Which as a  single hard working mother I know could not have been easy, which of course as a child I took for granted and never realized. My family is a little unconventional in our words of wisdom. Lets face it the Bill Cosby ideal that cake contains milk, eggs, and flour that it is good for breakfast always made me giggle a bit, but I guess it is no worse then french toast is it?? So as you can see it is the most of my life lessons and #momwisdom came from words that were left unspoken. A

Gardening in West Texas That is What I Get

My oh my what a gardening day. I got up and out in the garden by 8 in the morning. Everyone is growing so well! My tomatoes though were getting a bit over grown. My friend over at My Side of Life told me they needed two feet of space a piece and while I couldn't listen to that point(I gave my just over a foot between them) some of them had to be moved. So I got to digging and transplanting, when I reach a hard piece of ground I got my spade out and started hacking at the ground............guess I should have moved a nearby pot......because as I was trying to transplant and dig I hit the corner. At this point I don't think it is broken enough to go in but I messed something up good :p . Here are some pictures for the garden this week. Beautiful clouds before our evening storm, you can see how big the sunflower is getting!

Vanilla Chocolate Chip Muffins

When I woke up this morning I just couldn't decide what would be for breakfast. As we delve into preparing to homestead the amount of pre-packaged and process food decreases which effect me the worst for breakfast. This morning I decided muffins were the way to go and well, I had Chocolate chips!  Ingredients 2 Cups of Flour 2 Tablespoons of Sugar 1/2 Teaspoons of Salt 2 Tablespoons of Baking Powder 1 Egg 1 Cup of Milk 1 Teaspoon of Vanilla 1/2 Cup Chocolate Chips(or more if you want) Directions Mix together all your dry ingredients so they are well blended. Add wet ingredients all together and mix until blended. Add Chocolate Chips. Bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes      These were really good and just what I was craving this morning I hope you enjoy them!

Simply Saturday

Hmmmm........not much to say this Saturday. We were going to have our first big sell down yardsale but the weather prevented us from doing that booooo!!! We did end up finding a great deal on a solar panel set up that should be big enough to run our rv. I am really excited about that, everything we have to sell is just material and while it would be nice to get some cash for it, if it ever comes time to go what we don't need could easily find a new home. Each step closer gets me more excited and even more overwhelmed! I did sell 2 large storage containers full of stuff online though so tomorrow my goal is to refill those containers! I hope everyone has an amazing Father's Day with the ones they love.

Tangy Mango Salsa

As the summer months begin I have been challenged with finding new foods that taste good and help cool off my family. While flipping through an old family cookbook a couple great new ideas came into my mind. First thing I thought I would try was this Tangy Mango Salsa. Ingredients  1 Mango (diced) 1 Small Tomato (seeds removed and diced) 1/4 Cup Diced Red Onion Juice of 1/2 Lime 1/8 Cup Chopped Cilantro Directions Mix ingredients together and let sit for 2-3 hours till flavors combine and are well chilled.      This salsa is great with any chip or as a topping to tacos, fish and more. To add a little heat add some chopped jalapenos to the mix.

Classroom Friendly Pencil Sharpener Review

Recently I was given the chance to review something that to some may not seem exciting but to a mother and someone who use to work in a school a great pencil sharpener is something that you cannot live without. For years I have tossed about small pencil sharpener after small pencil sharpener usually only to break it or lose it. I have always thought about getting one like you would use in school but never have. When I got a chance to review the Classroom Friendly Pencil Sharpener I jumped right one board. My package arrived quickly and my kids and I were more then eager to take it out and use it. It came in a great little box that it could be stored in or even reused for something else.

Texas Laws For Child Restraint While RVing

She obviously will NOT be riding like this! Recently we purchased a rv and it got me thinking. With a young child (5) who is very small (38 pounds) what are the requirements for restraint?? In my car my daughter still rides in a 5 point harness car seat in the middle rear seat. Now obviously I want her as safe as possible, I but couldn't see a way to install her seat at the table, it didn't seem safe to put her in the side facing seat(which it isn't and is illegal) and the front passenger seat really really scares me. So I went to my good friend google for answers. Of course I found many many sites that gave their opinion and they had some great points, but decided to go with the word of the Texas Department of Public Safety for the final word. **Are child safety seat systems required in recreational vehicles (RVs)? An RV does not meet the definition of a passenger vehicle as defined in the Texas statute 545.412. Texas law requires all child safety seat sys

Gardening in West Texas and Soaking in the Rain!

What a crazy week it has been, from 100 degrees to 70 and back, oh and did I mention we also got 2 INCHES OF RAIN! Around here that amount is nothing short of a blessing and boy is the garden just soaking in all the rain :) We have seen amazing growth this week and yes I have still used my laundry water several times this week and keeping everything good and soaked! I also went ahead and added a layer of straw hay around all our plants. I am hoping as we stya around 100 degrees this week it will keep all our precious water where it needs to be. The Flowers are doing great :) not a bee but a cute little butterfly is visiting

Yummy Banana Nut Bread

I have a love hate relationship with buying bananas they are so good for you but for some reason there is always a couple that start to go bad. I suppose that is why banana bread was created :) here is my favorite recipe to create this tasty treat. Thanks again Martha Stewart for your delicious recipes!

Simply Saturday Here Comes The Future!

Like I mentioned last week our family is preparing to move to a homesteading lifestyle. Last weekend we ended up buying an rv which will end up being our start off homestead shelter. It was an exciting moment since it wasn't exactly what we intended on doing but it was the perfect one at the perfect time. So now that we have shelter we are going to be searching for land in 20 days! Wow what a scary thought that is.....we are going to spend a little more then a week looking about to find the perfect homestead. If it is meant to be it will happen is the way I see it, we won't settle on something that may be good enough it must be PERFECT! Right now the plan is to leave here on April 1st, yep that is right 297 days! I am so excited about this and yet so overwhelmed because as my husband continues to work 70 hours a week to make it all possible it is my job to downsize and get rid of about 90% of what we own! Which is sadly surprisingly easier then one would think. In my 12 adult

Perfect Dinner Rolls

I'm not sure I have mentioned this on the blog yet but last Friday I officially become a housewife/stay at home mom again. I am super excited because that means I have more things to do the things I love! Like bake and blog. So I was really craving some hot homemade dinner rolls last night :) here is the ones I made!(Thanks Martha Stewart for the Just a warning if you want these in time for a certain meal make note they take 4 hours about from start to finish!

Living gfreely

Going gluten free has really benefited my children in so many ways. However, like with anything new getting started with this new lifestyle is often the challenge. Recently I learned about a new monthly subscription  box that would do just that. With gfreely not only have I been given the opportunity to try new gluten free products, but unlike some of the other boxes I have tried they had real amounts and great product sizes! Starting at $19 a month gfreely has so much to offer. This is the box we received As you can see from the picture the products and size are amazing! With a value way over the $19 a month there really is no way that you could good wrong. As my children and I worked our way through the products there was one thing we noticed, everything was really good! Which for obvious reason is great, no one likes a life full of things that bring no joy. I said earlier that there was more to gfreely then just it being a monthly subscription box. They also offer a grea

Keeping Cool and Feeling Better With Fruttare

I have been lucky enough this week to ask to review a cool new product and it couldn't have come at a better time. Not only has the heat been what can only be described as brutal, but my little princess has also been very ill(she got a bacterial infection in her throat). With the kids just getting out for summer vacation, summer is already in full force here in West Texas. I knew today when we woke up that it was going to be a frozen treat kind of day, at 78 degrees 4am felt more like it should have been 4 pm. Don't worry I am not eating Fruttare Frozen Fruit Bars at 4am, but I did consider it! What is Fruttare you ask? They are a brand new frozen treat made with real fruit and milk.

Gardening in West Texas As the Garden Grows

Can't wait to see this sunflower bloom! But not yet ;) I was sitting this morning and realized how long it has been since I have updated on the garden. Life has gotten so crazy around here that I really have just tried to survive. It is West Texas so of course it has been hot hot hot most of the time! Last night however we were blessed with something we haven't seen in a while. A nice drenching rain. While sure we only got about a half of an inch it made my garden smile and me smile because I knew at least for the morning I would not have to water it. Things are growing great and I wanted to share a couple pictures. For water I am still running my washing machine outside I have 3 loads so I just switch which row I drain it into when it is time to run a load :) I have only had to use tap water 3 times so far this year and I am very happy about that!

Getting Fit and Feeling Great with Ellie!

Since the first of the year I know you have heard me talk a lot about getting fit. It has been great to have a great support team at work and I have to admit I am a little afraid that come summer break I will slip. Recently I have been back sliding a bit with my busy schedule so when I got the chance to review a new workout outfit from Ellie I was SUPER excited. Looking through their website of super cute outfits it was really hard to decide what I wanted. After much thought I decided to go with the Little Black Capris and  After Dark Shirt making sure to use their handy size chart to figure out just the right fit for me.

Sweets are by far one of my biggest weaknesses in life. I have tried to just remove them but let's all face it, what fun would life be without a sweet treat every now and again?? When I got the opportunity to review a company called NuNaturals I was pretty excited and when my box of goodies arrived you could say I was through the moon! There was so many amazing products and I have had a great time creating with them that it may be easiest to make this a picture review! I will tell you all my thoughts and uses at the bottom of each picture. Clicking on each caption below the picture will take you to more information on the product and where you can purchase it! The PreSweet Tagatose was hard at first but I found worked GREAT in my banana bread instead of sugar! This Red Ape Cinnamon was great in hot chocolate but mainly we use it on our french toast! The review is not even close to over! I am having so much fun creating recipes there will be more to come. NuNaturals
