Gardening in West Texas-Week 3

There really isn't a whole lot to report this week. I think because of the cold night growth has been pretty limited. It was a beautiful sunny day yesterday at 6s degrees and snow will be falling with blizzard conditions today! I hope it does not kill my garlic. The seedlings are still inside so they should be fairly safe. Although it gets a bit of a chill where they are they will not hit freezing temperatures :). There is still a lot of plowing to do and that darn crab grass needs more pulling! In a couple weeks we will spread our first batch of compost. Here are a couple pictures for the week. How is the weather where you are??
Most of our flowers are getting stronger and thriving! Wish that last row would grow.

These tomatoes will get bigger places to grow this week :)

Cucumbers, lettuces, cucumbers and lots of tomatoes!

I hate the way the temperatures drop like that! Our flowers are trying to bloom and then, snow. Looks like your gardening is doing well.
The weather is si darn cold where I live that I haven't had the chance to even think of gardening!! Plus we will be moving in late April...so I don't want to garden here to then have to move.

Good luck on your gardening and hope that last row wakes up soon!

It's hot here. Too hot for this time of year. I have a horrible sunburn :( I say every year I'm going to start a garden. Can't wait to see how yours comes along.

How cool! I just moved to Texas at the end of last summer and am not sure how our garden will work out this year. We are in north Texas, but I bet that it is similar to where you are at.

Love it.. love your ideas... here in Florida everything is already in full bloom and the winter crop a/k/a Citrus and Strawberries are almost over with the season.

Jello Hard Candy

Most hard candies call for corn syrup, but since I was out and I have 3 children home I decided to experiment and make something fun! Here is what you need:
2 Cups of Sugar
2 Cups of Water
1 Package Sugar Free Jello
A candy Thermometer

Making candy is a pretty tricky process and trust me I messed up a batch or two getting this to work right.lol Put the sugar and water into the pot and turn on medium whisking well till the sugar is dissolved. Stirring pretty regularly to help the sugar from burning. As the sugar begin to boil turn the heat up to high. Watch your thermometer when the candy reaches 230 pour in the jello continuing to mix. Pour this mixture immediately into a cake pan that is lined with parchment paper of you can rub a little veggie oil in it. The candy will continue to cook as it melts anything over 230 you will be left with a burnt candy that tastes like licorice.lol After you candy is cooled completely turn it out onto a cookie sheet and break apart :O) I like to dust mine …
