Julep Review and Giveaway

Nail art has become such a hot trend recently. From beautiful vibrant colors to amazing designs you see them everywhere. I love to pin Great ideas on my Pinterest, and I am sure you have seen some great ones yourself. I will be the first to admit that as an adult I had never painted my nails.lol Recently I was given a chance to review a great product and service called Julep. Julep not only has great nail polish but other beauty supplies as well, like mascara, lip balms and glosses, and things you will need for your next manicure or pedicure.
I reviewed the Maven box recently and it was so much fun. The nail polish I received was nice and thick but not lumpy. I also got a pedicure creme that was amazing! If you are a regular fan you know I recently started working after spending 10 years of my life as a stay at home mom and it has been quite a transition for all of us. My daughter and I have been using this Maven box to spend time together as mother and daughter. The maven program is great for only $19.99 you receive at least $40 worth of products, there is free shipping, great discounts on other products you may purchase, and my favorite part NO COMMITMENT. You are always welcome to skip a box if you are having a tight month or cancel your membership at any time. With kids going off to college this is a great product that you can send as a gift every month, a little something to let them know you are thinking about them. I love Julep nail polish! Those two colors are so pretty. I only own a few of their polishes but am happy to see that Sephora is now selling them too!

Homemade Fly Traps

We all love summer but as the weather gets warmer the flies get worse and worse. We have a bush out front of our house that I swear just attracts every fly in town! I wanted to get rid of them but I didn't want to kill all the wonderful butterflies it also attracts. So I went about finding a new way to kill them all. I had some empty Tazo tea bottles I simply poked a pen sized whole in the top, added 1/2 cup of water, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 tablespoon of dish soap, and 1 tablespoon of syrup. Now I do find that these work better if you place them in the sun :O) If you want to use a bigger container simply multiply the ingredients. Make sure your hole is only about the size of a pen cap! Then they can't seem to get back out.lol

Putting On Girl Scout Badges With A Flat Iron

I love helping all my little daisies earn badges, but as a mom I hate putting them on. Lol I saw an idea on Pinterest a while back to use a flat iron so I thought I'd give it a try.  It worked really well but I do have a couple suggestions. First make sure your badge  is exactly where you want them. Unlike an iron this causes the glue to melt very fast! Second count I 3-4 and it is probably done! Lastly you will likely have to apply pressure to the end pinching it tight. Overall it worked very well and I will probably keep putting badges on this way :)

Jello Hard Candy

Most hard candies call for corn syrup, but since I was out and I have 3 children home I decided to experiment and make something fun! Here is what you need:
2 Cups of Sugar
2 Cups of Water
1 Package Sugar Free Jello
A candy Thermometer

Making candy is a pretty tricky process and trust me I messed up a batch or two getting this to work right.lol Put the sugar and water into the pot and turn on medium whisking well till the sugar is dissolved. Stirring pretty regularly to help the sugar from burning. As the sugar begin to boil turn the heat up to high. Watch your thermometer when the candy reaches 230 pour in the jello continuing to mix. Pour this mixture immediately into a cake pan that is lined with parchment paper of you can rub a little veggie oil in it. The candy will continue to cook as it melts anything over 230 you will be left with a burnt candy that tastes like licorice.lol After you candy is cooled completely turn it out onto a cookie sheet and break apart :O) I like to dust mine …
