Ecojet Giveaway

Whew what a fun filled week! Last of the new giveaways today.

Notebooks are a back to school staple. Ecojot.com, which is based in Ontario, provides a variety of notebooks and other paper products, including calendars, jounals and sketchbooks. What makes them different though is that all of their stationary products are made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper. Not only are their products eco-friendly but they're also fun! Designer Carolyn Gavin gets inspiration from different artistic genres found in her travels and varying facets of life. I was sent the MP3 red notebook.   My kids love music so they really liked the design on the front. the notebook is really good quality. I can't stand when the spirals aren't done well and the paper gets caught or the pages won't turn. I didn't have any pf those problems with the ecojot notebook. Another thing I love about this company is that they give back through their GIVE program.
With the purchase of a jumbo journal, ecojot will give a workbook to a child in need. This is important because many children in devolving countries can't attend school becasue they can't afford the basic supplies. Ecojot helps with that. On August 11th Ecojot is hosting a GIVE to the Children Concert. At this concert, they will announce the winner of a contest they have going on right now. Here are some details from their website: "Submit a slideshow documenting your most creative work using an Ecojot Jumbo Journal. Feel free to display only the pages you wish to share but be sure they're your most creative. Whether it be a drawing, poem, story, paper art or a list of interesting things to do we want to see it and share the art of writing.
  • Slideshow should be no more than 2 ½ minutes long and no shorter than 30 seconds
  • Optional: background music that is appropriate to your JJ content
  • Submit your slideshow to us via email at contest@ecojot.com and please include your full name, contact information and a short blurb about yourself
  • Deadline is July 27th 2012"
The winner of the contest will receive a $250 cash prize pack which includes $150 cash, a $100 Ecojot gift certificate and a ticket to the event if you're in the city. So, grab your Ecojot Jumbo Journal and get creative! And now, thanks to Ecojot, one of our lucky readers will win a $25 e-gift card to their online store! This giveaway is open Worldwide! Homemade Fly Traps

We all love summer but as the weather gets warmer the flies get worse and worse. We have a bush out front of our house that I swear just attracts every fly in town! I wanted to get rid of them but I didn't want to kill all the wonderful butterflies it also attracts. So I went about finding a new way to kill them all. I had some empty Tazo tea bottles I simply poked a pen sized whole in the top, added 1/2 cup of water, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 tablespoon of dish soap, and 1 tablespoon of syrup. Now I do find that these work better if you place them in the sun :O) If you want to use a bigger container simply multiply the ingredients. Make sure your hole is only about the size of a pen cap! Then they can't seem to get back out.lol

Putting On Girl Scout Badges With A Flat Iron

I love helping all my little daisies earn badges, but as a mom I hate putting them on. Lol I saw an idea on Pinterest a while back to use a flat iron so I thought I'd give it a try.  It worked really well but I do have a couple suggestions. First make sure your badge  is exactly where you want them. Unlike an iron this causes the glue to melt very fast! Second count I 3-4 and it is probably done! Lastly you will likely have to apply pressure to the end pinching it tight. Overall it worked very well and I will probably keep putting badges on this way :)

Jello Hard Candy

Most hard candies call for corn syrup, but since I was out and I have 3 children home I decided to experiment and make something fun! Here is what you need:
2 Cups of Sugar
2 Cups of Water
1 Package Sugar Free Jello
A candy Thermometer

Making candy is a pretty tricky process and trust me I messed up a batch or two getting this to work right.lol Put the sugar and water into the pot and turn on medium whisking well till the sugar is dissolved. Stirring pretty regularly to help the sugar from burning. As the sugar begin to boil turn the heat up to high. Watch your thermometer when the candy reaches 230 pour in the jello continuing to mix. Pour this mixture immediately into a cake pan that is lined with parchment paper of you can rub a little veggie oil in it. The candy will continue to cook as it melts anything over 230 you will be left with a burnt candy that tastes like licorice.lol After you candy is cooled completely turn it out onto a cookie sheet and break apart :O) I like to dust mine …
